Parcel Measurements & Weight

Information about the maximum parcel measurements and weight for NP/KP parcels, DPD Parcelletters and DPD Shop deliveries.

  1. Introduction

    Parcels delivered with road transport (e.g. DPD Business, DPD Home, DPD Parcelletter, DPD Shop and DPD Time Definite) are divided in five parcel types:

    • Normal Parcels (NP) have a maximum weight of 31,5 kg, a maximum length of 175 cm and a maximum girth of 300 cm.
    • Small Parcels (KP)* have a maximum weight of 3 kg, a maximum length of 50 cm and a maximum girth of 111 cm.
    • DPD Parcelletter has a maximum weight of 1 kg and the maximum measurements of 36 x 26 x 3 cm.
    • DPD Parcel Points has a maximum weight of 20 kg, a maximum length of 100 cm and a maximum girth of 250 cm.
    • DPD Lockers have a maximun weight of 20 kg, a maximun length of 72 cm and a maximum girth of 278 cm. (!)These measurements are only applicable to lockers in The Netherlands.

    * As of mid 2026, for creating small parcels (KP) it is mandatory to provide both weight as well as the measurements (Weight, Lenght and Girth) in the data. This data forms the basis for calculating the parcel type; normal (NP) or small (KP). Information about the requirements NP/KP can be found in sections 2 & 3, see below.

  7. Weight Notation Heavy Parcels

    Parcels weighing more than 10 kg or 20 kg require a weight icon on the label. In addition to the marking, it is essential that the correct parcel weight is provided in the data for every parcel.

    For parcels up to 10 kg, no additional marking is required. For parcels weighing more than 10 kg (starting at 10.01 kg), the white icon is needed. For parcels weighing more than 20 kg (starting at 20.01 kg), the black icon is needed. The icons can be found as SVG files below.

    This applies to all destinations.


    Standard label solutions
    For DPD Shipper Central and DPD Shipper Webservices, the labels have been updated automatically. No action is required.
    For DPD Shipper Local, the weight icons are not yet available. This requires a new release, which is currently in preparation. Once the release is available, you will need to install it to have the icons printed on your labels. You will be notified within Shipper Local when this new version is ready to be installed.

    Tip! If you do not use automatic import and/or the SMTP server in DPD Shipper Local, you can probably also use DPD Shipper Central, where the icons are already available. Please contact us via the Case Intake Form to discuss switching to DPD Shipper Central.

    Self development
    For self-developed solutions, you need to implement the icons below on your label. Once done, have your label validated by DPD via the Case Intake Form.
    The height and width of the icons should be 8 mm. The icon can be placed within the service field (see label examples). Click on the icons below to download the SVG file.

  8. FAQ Weight Notation Heavy Parcels

    Can you provide a standard (i.e. always the same) weight?
    No. The requirement applies per parcel. This means the weight must be reported accurately and specifically for each individual parcel.

    Can you provide an average weight of all packages together?
    No. The weight must be correctly stated per individual parcel.

    What happens if the icon does not match the actual weight of the package or when there is no icon on a package heavier than 10kg?
    The parcel is then considered incorrect. In that case we have to relabel the parcel, and the costs for relabelling will be charged to you. It also affects the service level and lead time of the parcel.

    What are the exact weight definitions?
    We apply the following criteria:

    • 10+ kg icon: Used for parcels weighing more than 10 kg (starting from 10.01 kg).
    • 20+ kg icon: Used for parcels weighing more than 20 kg (starting from 20.01 kg).
