  7. Weight Notation Germany

From January 1, 2025, parcels weighing over 10 kg or 20 kg delivered in Germany must be specially marked according to the German Postal Law. Additionally, to the marking it is essential that the correct parcel weight per parcel is provided in the data.
For parcels weighing up to 10 kg, no additional marking will be required. For parcels weighing more than 10 kg (starting at 10.01 kg), the white icon is needed. For parcels weighing more than 20 kg (starting at 20.01 kg), the black icon is needed. The icons can be find as SVG file below.

    Standard label solutions
For our standard label solutions (DPD Shipper Central / DPD Shipper Local* / DPD Shipper Webservices), the labels will be automatically updated.

*For DPD Shipper Local, you need to have version 2.3.31.0 installed. This version was released on December 17. Unfortunately, this version had a bug in it. Therefore it is not possible to go to version 2.3.31.0 at this time.
Tip! If you do not use automatic import and/or the SMTP server in DPD Shipper Local, you can probably also use DPD Shipper Central. Please contact us via the Case Intake Form to discuss the possibility to switch to DPD Shipper Central.

    Self development
For self development solutions, you need to implement the below icons on your label. Once done, let your label be validated by DPD via dpdshipper@dpd.nl or via the Case Intake Formulier.

The height and width of the icons should be 8mm. The icon can be placed within the service field (see label examples). Click on the icons below to download the SVG file.

  8. FAQ Weight Notation Germany

Can you provide standard (i.e. always the same) weight?
No, laws and regulations apply per parcel. This means that the weight must be reported accurately and specifically for each parcel.

Can you provide an average weight of all packages together?
No, laws and regulations require that the weight per individual parcel is correctly stated.

What happens if the icon does not match the actual weight of the package or when there is no icon on a package heavier than 10kg?
The package is then considered incorrect. In that case, we must relabel the package, and the costs for this relabeling will be charged to you. This also has an impact on the service and lead time of the parcel.

Where should I stick the stickers with the weight symbol?
The sticker must be placed on the same side of the parcel as the label. Detailed instructions are send to the customers who have applied for the sticker solution.

How long can customers order the stickers?
The stickers can be ordered one-time before 20th of December. The link to apply for the sticker solution has been send to all customers in the communication regarding the new German regulation heavy parcels. It is a temporary solution to support customers implementing a sustainable solution to comply to the new regulation.

What are the exact weight definitions?
In accordance with laws and regulations, we apply the following criteria:

    • 10+ kg icon: Used for parcels weighing more than 10 kg (starting from 10.01 kg).
    • 20+ kg icon: Used for parcels weighing more than 20 kg (starting from 20.01 kg).
